The objective of the Pro Wrestling Authors Hall of Fame is to draw attention to the work of professional wrestling authors who have dedicated significant stretches of time to producing books focused on professional wrestling content that preserve the history of professional wrestling. The secondary objective of the PWA HOF is to call attention to some of the unheralded works by pro wrestling authors that are invaluable to the professional wrestling genre, but which may have gone unacknowledged in comparison to works released through major publishers, or books that focus on subjects that are guaranteed to attract mainstream attention.
In keeping with these objectives, the PWA HOF has established a set of criteria that grants wrestling authors who generate a qualifying volume of work instant induction into this Hall of Fame. All PWA HOF inductees may refer to themselves as members of the PWA HOF during promotion of future book releases, or in any such cases where the citing of their accomplishments is deemed warranted. Similarly recipients of the PWA HOF's Commissioner's Choice Award may refer to that publication as a recipient of that award, retroactive to the year of its publication.

The Pro Wrestling Authors Hall of Fame was founded by three prominent pro wrestling authors. The intent of this Hall of Fame is to properly recognize the authors who have dedicated years of their lives to the production of published works honoring the legacy of professional wrestling, often without financial incentives dictating their areas of research.
In an effort to avoid the appearance that the PWA HOF is self-serving, control of the organization was immediately transferred to a qualified independent Commissioner following its founding.
